Chicory Flowers

Ahh - the blue eyed maiden - the chicory flower is a rare beauty - blooming in the morning and dying off at the end of the day. This flower is also known as "corn flower" or "coffee weed" - Of course the root is ground up and used in the traditional drink, the leaves are eaten by humans and grazed on by cows, and the French have been known to do something with the roots in the winter to produce white shoots for a salad named - Barbe de Capuchin. For more detail on the Chicory flower and it's many uses check out http://www.dec.ny.gov/pubs/58697.html

Fall Foliage

I have wrote about the fall foliage in the past, and I say I'll be more creative and come up with something else to write about, but the palette of intense crimson, gold, burnt sienna paired with the sights and sounds of the wild animals rustling to gather their food for winter fighting over walnuts and leaves. So far it has been mild and the roses and other flowers are still around so enjoy this rose bud which I snapped a few weeks ago...
